Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and Improved Safety Awareness Drive a Zero-Accident Record

Ensuring employees stay safe while they do their jobs is essential to fulfilling the TSUNEISHI Group’s corporate philosophy, “Developing stable businesses to ensure the happiness of employees.”

The fundamental principle of the Group’s health and safety policy is to place the highest priority on safety. To ensure that all workplace environments are thoroughly safe, we hold health and safety seminars and use a system to share any safety deficiencies discovered with all factory employees. We also provide necessary workplace training, including special training on the use of grinding wheels, or on dangerous operations such as those carried out in confined spaces that pose an oxygen deficiency hazard.

In 2019, TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. acquired ISO 45001 certification, which is an international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. Accordingly, we have implemented comprehensive safety measures based on efficient management that includes other international standards already adopted, namely ISO 9001 for quality management systems and ISO 14001 for environmental management systems.

At TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING, Tsuneishi Factory Achieves 365 Accident-Free Days

Since it adopted the ISO 45001 health and safety standard in January 2019, TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING has implemented mutual safety awareness-raising, as well as safety management based on the application of plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycles. This includes the use of safety MRs as well as internal and external safety audits.

Moreover, since many accidents involve young employees in their first to third year of employment, the company has launched a new initiative to watch out for young employees, and relevant safety activities have been developed in cooperation with each workplace. Through these efforts, the Tsuneishi Plant achieved a zero accident record of 365 days in 2022.

Using the Tsuneishi Factory as a model, the TSUNEISHI Group is working to further protect the safety of all its employees. Accordingly, we will continue to roll out our safe workplace expertise to other factories in Japan and abroad, in order to ensure even better safety group-wide.
