Rocket Landing Platform Vessel Design Receives ABS Approval
– Creating New Value by Connecting the Sea and Space –

AiP Award Ceremony at Sea Japan 2026

TSUNEISHI SOLUTIONS TOKYOBAY Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter “T-SOL”) has received Approval in Principle (hereinafter “AiP”) *1 from the American Bureau of Shipping (hereinafter “ABS”) for the basic design of an unmanned and autonomous recovery platform intended for offshore rocket recovery with Innovative Space Carrier Inc. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter “ISC”) and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter “MOL”) *2.

The AiP signifies the safety and technical feasibility of the overall system concept, encompassing not only the main rocket recovery vessel, but also the offshore support vessels and onshore control systems that support recovery operations.
Offshore rocket recovery is expected to improve safety along flight paths while enabling efficient recovery of reusable rockets, contributing to reduced launch costs and broader access to space utilisation. In addition, unmanned and autonomous operation will minimise the need for direct human involvement, supporting safer and reliable operations.

Leveraging its strengths in advanced ship and offshore engineering, design, liquefied gas-related technologies, and autonomous navigation and digitalisation technologies, T-SOL has contributed to the concept design and system integration of the offshore rocket recovery platform.
Moving forward, T-SOL will continue to work closely with ISC and MOL, while receiving technical guidance from ABS, to further refine the design and advance studies towards practical implementation.

Under the slogan “Creating the Future, Today”, TSUNEISHI SOLUTIONS TOKYOBAY Co., Ltd. remains committed to creating new value that connects the sea and space.

*1: An initial approval granted by a classification society confirming that, at the concept stage, a ship or equipment design is technically feasible and presents no significant safety or regulatory concerns.

*2: Please refer to the press release below for details of the collaboration agreement.
