TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU) Switches on Solar Power in Cebu
28 July 2025 – TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. (THI), the Philippine arm of TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING, has taken a big step towards greener operations by installing a rooftop solar power system at its site in the West Cebu Industrial Park, Balamban. The system went live on 28 July and marks part of the Group’s broader push to cut greenhouse gas emissions and adopt renewable energy across its businesses.
The project, carried out together with TSUNEISHI HOLDINGS (Cebu), Inc., will generate a total of 3MW of power when completed. It is being rolled out in two phases.
Phase 1 – Now in Operation
The first stage has seen a 1.1MW solar setup fitted to the rooftops of the office and staff dormitory of TSUNEISHI TECHNICAL SERVICES (Phils.) Inc.* The electricity produced is already supplying THI’s shipyard. Construction was handled by Tsuneishi Green Energy Philippines, Inc., making this a collaborative project across the wider TSUNEISHI Group.
Phase 2 – Coming Soon
The second stage will add another 1.9MW of solar panels at THI’s car park and the facilities of TSUNETETSU (Cebu), Inc. Work is due to be completed in 2026, with Tsuneishi Green Energy Philippines again leading the installation.
A Boost for Clean Energy in Cebu
Beyond cutting emissions at THI, the project also supports the Philippine Economic Zone Authority’s (PEZA) drive for more environmentally responsible operations in its economic zones. For TSUNEISHI, it’s another step towards sustainable shipbuilding and a cleaner future.
