The candidates, who were on average in their early 20s, were very impressed by the answers were given during the interviews at the selection meeting. They expressed a strong desire to contribute to the well-being on their parents and siblings by pursuing a position as a Technical Intern Trainees in Japan. \u2018I would like to bring back to Timor-Leste what I have learnt in Japan and contribute to the development of my country.\u2019 As this was the first time the trainees had been accepted from the country, they were able to start their training successfully with support from TSUNEISHI TIMOR SHIPBUILDING, UNIPESSOAL, LDA. The agreement to accept apprentices at TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING was signed on 23 January 2024, at the request of the Government of Timor-Leste, with the aim of cooperating in the further promotion of the global shipbuilding industry. There are 6 welding trainees and 4 painting trainees, 2 from each of the 5 partner companies. They will attend Japanese language courses, an orientation programme, and safety training, followed by technical training in welding and painting under the supervision of an instructor. The TSUNEZO COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION, the supervisory organisation for this training, providing a safe and secure environment for the trainees, including assistance with living conditions. For this acceptance, the practical and selection test were held on site in April 2024. The candidates, who were on average in their early 20s, were very impressed by the answers were given during the interviews at the selection meeting. They expressed a strong desire to contribute to the well-being on their parents and siblings by pursuing a position as a Technical Intern Trainees in Japan. \u2018I would like to bring back to Timor-Leste what I have learnt in Japan and contribute to the development of my country.\u2019 As this was the first time the trainees had been accepted from the country, they were able to start their training successfully with support from TSUNEISHI TIMOR SHIPBUILDING, UNIPESSOAL, LDA. (TTS), a local design company. There are few precedents for the acceptance of technical trainees from Timor-Leste to Japan, and TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING is the second company in Japan to have accepted Technical Intern Trainees from Timor-Leste, after a company in Kochi Prefecture. The selection process for the second batch of 11 trainees has already been completed, and they are scheduled to enter Japan in July this year.
