TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING held comprehensive disaster drill with the cooperation of Fukuyama Nishi Fire Department

Runs to confirm the disaster situation

TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd.(head office: Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan)held a comprehensive disaster drill on April 24 (Friday) at its Tsuneishi Factory, with the cooperation of Fukuyama Nishi Fire Department . Approximately 60 employees working at Tsuneishi Factory participated in this drill. It was held to confirm what actions should be taken if an earthquake with a seismic intensity of level 5-upper occurs, with injuries and fire occurring within the factory. We never know when an earthquake will strike, and what disasters it will bring. The shipbuilding site involves the use of fire as well as work in high places, and thus, if an earthquake strikes, we can expect such hazards as fire and explosion from gas leaks, as well as injuries caused by falling from high places and collapsed structures.

The disaster drill started at 9:30 in the morning with a warning broadcasted throughout the factory immediately after an Early Earthquake Warning was received. An emergency headquarter was established, and the self-defense fire crew went into action. At the same time, each of the groups responsible for information, precautions, support, medical aid, guidance, and disaster-prevention started operating under the supervision of each of its leaders. Since each group managed to act quickly and work in cooperation with the emergency rescue squad and fire crew, we finished assisting the injured and getting the fire under control by 10:00 a.m.

After the drill, Kazuhide Shibabuki, Chief of the Fukuyama Nishi Fire Department, commented “TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING has been conducting drills every year for the past 10 years, and has a high awareness of the importance of disaster training. Each group displayed the appropriate response at today’s drill. It took a little time when something unexpected occurred, but I think overall, the objective of this drill was achieved. I hope each individual and the organization will continue to enhance their disaster-preventive abilities in order to be able to protect your own lives, as well as the lives of your colleagues, on your own initiatives.”

Finally, Tsuneishi Factory Manager Masahiro Kawakita commented, “TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING handles heavy, flammable, and dangerous items. In times of emergency, we ourselves must take the lead within the company in applying what we have learned through such disaster drills, both reliably and safely.”
In a situation of emergency, we must not only take rapid action to evacuate and preserve our equipment, but must also give first aid and deal with fires. Tsuneishi Factory has been assuring that we make disaster prevention practices a habit by conducting regular fire drills from 2003 and earthquake drills from 2008, so that we will be able to respond appropriately towards disasters should such a situation arise.
