SETOUCHI SEAPLANES, Inc. Launches Japan’s First Air Transport Service in Fifty Years to Use Amphibious Aircraft
ONOMICHI, Hiroshima—10 August 2016—On 15 January 2016, SETOUCHI SEAPLANES, Inc. obtained approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism’s Osaka Regional Civil Aviation Bureau to engage in air transport services. Now that it’s operational control facilities have passed the inspection required to start operations, today the company has begun sightseeing flights from its base at Onomichi Floating Port in Onomichi, Hiroshima.
Under a robust system to ensure safe operation, the company will work to convey the appeal of the Setouchi Inland Sea, using amphibious aircraft to promote new values that will satisfy customers by taking them from the water to the sky. As a pioneer in amphibious aircraft, we will continue to pursue a variety of new possibilities, including their use as a new mode of transportation, as we contribute to the revitalization of the local economy and promotion of tourism.
