TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. (head office: Buanoy,Balamban,Cebu,Philippines), one of the leading shipbuilders in the world, marks its 20th anniversary in operation in the Philippines and vows to continuously improve manpower skill and product quality as Asia’s leading shipyard.

To celebrate its development and contribution to the local communities since beginning in September 30, 1994, TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. executives met with the Philippine and international press at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel in Manila, Monday, August 18. Present during the event were TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. president Mr. Hitoshi Kono, TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd., Japan director and overseas operations director Mr. Kenji Kawano, and Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) director general Dr. Lilia De Lima.

“We are truly grateful for the understanding, hospitality and support we received from Balamban and the Philippine government, without which we would not have reached this milestone. We are also grateful for the cooperation and hard work of Filipino and Japanese staff. Their dedication helped us achieve the same level of quality here as in Japan. And we will continue to pursue excellence in the years to come,” Kono said.

In 2013, THICI has received the Hall of Fame for Outstanding Community Project Award, and the Outstanding Export Award from PEZA, making it the company′s 9th recognition.

“Our employees are our greatest assets and we are committed to provide further education and training to help them realize their potential and allow them to significantly contribute to what we are doing in the company,” Kono said. “Over the past two decades, we have done technical trainings at our shipbuilding center, and sent over 1400 employees to Japan where Filipino employees acquired additional technical skills.”

TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. ’s commitment to educate and train employees were also manifest in its Japanese language school, located on the company premises, to prepare trainees and young employees who are headed to Japan. Regular and systematic trainings are also available for new and existing employees.

Because of this dedication to continually invest in its employees, Tsuneishi and the country are reaping the rewards. “The Philippines grew to be the fourth largest shipbuilding country in the world in 2010. Over the last 20 years, TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. has delivered 193 ships, including ship orders made in 2014, with revenue of around 600 billion yen (approximately 250 billion pesos). We are also proud to say that through the work we do, we have significantly contributed to the development not only of the Philippine economy but of the local communities as well, specifically in Balamban,” Kawano said.

TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. established the TSUNEISHI FOUNDATION (CEBU), Inc. on February 2, 2010 to cater to the social needs of the community. “Through Tsuneishi Foundation, we have awarded numerous scholarships, granted medical care to those in need, and led environmental improvement efforts. And we will continue to support the community for the happiness of Balamban people as long as we are here,” Kono said.

Looking forward, TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. will continue to build new ships and to give education opportunities to employees, while continuing to improve quality, and increase revenue. “This way, we will further strengthen the Philippines’ role as TSUNEISHI GROUP’s strategic hub in Asia,” Kono said.
